The SWK Netze GmbH has conducted continuous pressure measurements at fifteen critical points as part of its project "Network Monitoring in the Low-Pressure Gas Network." The goal was to precisely calibrate the pipeline network program while minimizing civil engineering and pipework interventions.
To avoid extensive construction work, pressure was measured at existing ventilation fittings. The measurement technology was installed in lockable street caps according to DIN3583 size 3, enabling an easy and cost-efficient implementation.
The pressure measurement was carried out using the Process Guardian LS-42 from AIRVALVE. This device features an integrated high-performance antenna that ensures interference-free signal transmission even in shaft structures. The process guardian operates independently of power and telephone connections thanks to a powerful, replaceable battery with a lifespan of over ten years.
The pressure measurement is performed using the Pressure Transmitter ATM/N from STS.
The entire measurement setup was installed in street caps. The plug of the ventilation riser pipe was replaced with a reducing fitting, which was integrated with an all-stainless steel ball valve for shutting off the measurement connection. A minimal measurement connection allows calibration of the pressure sensor, which is connected to the process guardian via a pressure equalization distributor box.
This solution enables long-term, reliable, and low-maintenance monitoring of the low-pressure gas network without extensive construction work.
